Science!!!
John and Barb have been lifelong friends and we've also made some really cool jewelry together! You may recall the solar system necklace?
John reached out to me because he had been thinking about the benzene ring, and wanted to make Barb a necklace, with gems as the Carbon atoms... We thought that black star sapphires would be perfect! (But so tricky to photograph lol)
Why a benzene ring? Here's some science for you:
"A benzene ring is a planar, hexagonal ring structure composed of six carbon atoms, with each carbon atom bonded to a single hydrogen atom, and with alternating single and double bonds between the carbon atoms, resulting in a delocalized electron system across the ring, giving it unique stability."
Stability in its differences! A long marriage between them symbolized in a cool necklace, so meaningful and unique!
We left off the hydrogen atoms, because for the purposes of the symbolism, they aren't necessary.
