Upcycling, play, and inventiveness!  

I purchased a pair of earrings that were very… 80’s “Designing Women” type of vibe.. They were definitely dated but I really liked the diamond cut texture that was on the gold, and I really wanted to transform them into modern earrings.  I played around with the shape, cutting the earring in half and then carefully curling them around a ring mandrel to create a tube like shape.  The domed top came from an old Turkish bracelet that I melted down into sheet and fabricated the cups to weld on top. 

I loved the little double sided checkerboard cut amethyst dangles, and they fit perfectly in the earrings!  The results are these lovely lightweight and sparkly earrings that are incredibly unique, and with a cool story too!

6mm “capri cut” double sided checkerboard amethysts.  14k gold, upcycled components and new recycled gold wire and setting.

The earrings measure  approximately 1.5” from the ear.
